Race 1: Kendrick Racing Owners Day Maiden H'cap – 1200m
HELL OF THE QUEST – Slow to begin. Had to be checked from heels near the 900m, and continued to overrace before being steadied from heels again approaching the 600m. Obliged to alter course passing the 300m to secure clear running, and was steadied from heels approaching the 200m when held up before altering course passing the 200m to secure clear running.
GLOBAL GURU – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced 3 wide without cover.
LADY DUPORTH – Jumped away awkwardly.
SHOWDOWN WARRIOR –Steadied when tightened for room and lost ground near the 900m when racing to the inside of LADY DUPORTH. L. Londregan, rider of LUDAVICO, which was racing further to the outside at this point, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in. Crowded for room approaching the 500m and had to be steadied.
ROSE OF WOORIM – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Had to be checked near the 200m when tightened for room between LUDOVICO and SEE THAT, which shifted out after being placed under pressure. After taking evidence from the riders involved, stewards were satisfied that L. Tarrant, rider of SEE THAT, had reacted sufficiently to stop riding and straighten his mount and therefore did not feel that he had been careless in this incident.
SEE THAT – Trainer P. Duncan reported that the horse had a mild case of the thumps after returning to his stables.
Race 2: Oakwood Farm Maiden H'cap – 1600m
SAGA MISS – Slowly into stride.
DUKE OF STAGHURST – Shifted out passing the 500m despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey D. Browne reported after being caught wide in the early stages proceeded to the lead, however commenced to weaken rounding the home turn and compounded badly in the home straight.
ANADEM – Overraced in the early and middle stages and near the 800m steadied from heels and shifted 3 wide and racing wide from that point onwards. Bumped by another runner to the inside near the 500m and forced wider at that point. Inconvenienced whilst weakening passing the 400m and had to be steadied.
SHE’S A UNIT – Bumped by another runner near the 500m to the inside and forced wider at that point. Inconvenienced by another runner when leaving the 300m. B. Pengelly, rider of MUSHIN, was reprimanded.
IDEAL WALTZ – Was checked passing the 500m when tightened for room. Raced 3 wide without cover.
MUSHIN – Forced wider on the track near the 500m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider B. Pengelly was fined $200 For using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
SCARLEE BLACK – Held up rounding the home turn and slightly inconvenienced by another runner near the 400m.
HEROIC ROCK - Near the 300m was disappointed for a run after receiving pressure from another runner. Following this was unable to secure clear running until near the 150m..
Race 3: Kendrick Racing Snitzel Shares Available Class 3 H'cap – 1800m
KAZAN – Overraced in the early stages and shifted wider.
JUST KEEP GIVING – Forced wider for a short distance in the early stages, and then overraced until approaching the 1000m. Held up rounding the home turn and until the home straight, and near the 300m the rider attempted to force another runner wider to obtain clear running and made contact with that runner on a number of occasions and became unbalanced. Then continued to be held up for clear running until approaching the 100m.
SNAPCRACKLE - Bumped by another runner on a number of occasions near the 300m.
PANNO ROSSA – Held up rounding the home turn and had difficulty securing clear running until leaving the 100m.
YEAGER – Jockey J. Byrne reported that after being slow to begin he attempted to improve into the race in a 3 wide position from the 900m, however the horse did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. He could offer no further explanation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Race 4: The Darby Racing Syndications Plate Class 1 H'cap – 1000m
BLOOMIN’ ELUSIVE – The start was delayed when the horse became fractious in the barriers and had to be examined by the veterinary surgeon before being cleared to start. Trainer T. Green advised stewards that in light of today’s performance the horse would be sent for a spell.
LIMERICK MOON – Inconvenienced on jumping away.
MANKINI LOVE – Inconvenienced on jumping away.
FIERY MISS – Reared as the start was effected.
DESPINA – Improved onto heels passing the 500m and was steadied and shifted wider to secure clear running.
MR SEDUCTION – Steadied near the 100m when placed in restricted room by another runner.
EGIPTIENNE – Raced 3 wide without cover.
LADY DENMAN – Jockey D. Browne indicated the horse travelled comfortably, however over the final 200m weakened badly and proved very disappointing. Trainer S. Kendrick felt the horse was disappointing however could offer no explanation for the performance, indicating that the horse’s work had been promising in the lead up to today after having been freshened up for today’s start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 5: Britt’s Selected Meats QTIS 3yo Class 1 H'cap – 1000m
The start was delayed to hold for another venue.
MIRI MIRI – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected and lost ground. Overreacted when inconvenienced by another runner near the 300m and shifted out, losing significant ground. Held up for clear running and had to be checked near the 150m and went to the line without being tested.
SYN CITY – Slow to begin. Obliged to check near the 300m to avoid heels.
GRACEVILLE – Overraced after passing the 800m and was obliged to steady from heels until near the 500, and after that point when attempting to secure clear running made contact with another runner on a number of occasions and became unbalanced.
IT’S VEGAS BABY – Inconvenienced by another runner near the 700m and had to be steadied. Again inconvenienced by HIGH COST near the 300m, which after being held up for clear running, shifted out. S. Drake, rider of HIGH COST, was advised to exercise more care.
ROTHBURY – Held up for clear running and was obliged to alter course near the 300m.
WONDERFUL TALE – Raced wide throughout.
CLARAGH – Raced 3 wide without cover.
Race 6: Kendrick Racing Stratum Shares Class 5 H'cap – 1300m
FIRE WITHIN – Slow to begin.
ABADDON – Restrained from heels when the pace slackened after leaving the 800m.
ROYAL JESTER – Hampered passing the 800m and forced wider. Raced wide throughout.
FIRE WITHIN – Checked from heels after passing the 800m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
PICTURE IT – Unable to secure clear running from the 150m onwards and went to the line without being fully tested.
PASSATORIO – When asked to comment regarding the performance, D. Browne stated that the horse did not show its customary early pace in the first 200m. He was therefore obliged to race 3 wide without cover. Jockey Browne was of the view that approaching the 400m the horse was not travelling as he would have liked and did not respond to his riding from that point onwards and, in his opinion, was disappointing in the run to the line. Trainer S. Kendrick indicated that the horse was disappointing. He did report the horse had a minor laceration to the outside of the off fore canon consistent with having been galloped on. He agreed that the class of today’s event was a step up from the horse’s most recent start, however was nevertheless disappointing, and he indicated he would report to stewards in the coming days anything that may explain the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7: The Darby Racing Syndications Plate Class 1 H'cap – 1400m
BILBERRY STAR – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 200m.
SHANTICO – Slow to begin.
GAME OF FAME – Had to be restrained from heels near the 900m when racing keenly and then clipped heels and blundered, losing significant ground.
LA FEMME FATALE – Shifted in and away from another runner near the 900m and then had to be restrained from heels and lost ground. Raced wide.
WICKED TRILOGY – Had to be checked from heels and shifted wider on the track near the 850m. Held up for clear running after leaving the 250m and had to be restrained from heels after passing the 200m.
PERFORATION – Raced 3 wide without cover.
Race 8: Novotel Brisbane Airport Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
On return to scale a protest was lodged by G. Goold, rider of the 2nd placegetter, IN THE MOMENT, against GOLDEN MINESHAFT being declared the winner, alleging interference after entering the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol videos, stewards were satisfied that shortly after passing the 400m IN A MOMENT had improved into a run to the inside of GOLDEN MINESHAFT and shortly thereafter GOLDEN MINESHAFT shifted back to the fence tightening the running of IN THE MOMENT, causing its rider to take hold and lose its rightful running before shifting out across the heels of GOLDEN MINESHAFT to secure clear running. Stewards were comfortably satisfied that the interference suffered was sufficient to reverse the placings and therefore the protest was upheld and the Judge’s placings amended to read: No. 8 – IN THE MOMENT – 1st No. 10 - GOLDEN MINESHAFT – 2nd No.11 – Cabana Boy – 3rd No. 5 – SILENT DUKE - 4th. At a subsequent inquiry, L. Tarrant, rider of GOLDEN MINESHAFT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding and was suspended for a period covered by 9 days to commence at midnight, 24 October and to expire at midnight, 2 November.
CABANA BOY – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
BALAKLAVA – Slow to begin. Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported it was not her intention to ride the horse at the tail of the field however after beginning poorly she was obliged to take up a trailing position.
GOLDEN MINESHAFT – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
OFFENSIVE PLAY – Hung out for the majority of the race.
