GENERAL
As Apprentice B. Wheeler was unable to fulfil his engagement in Race 7 on KATERINI due to personal reasons, he was subsequently replaced by Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor.
Race 1: COASTLINE BMW. THE 1. MAIDEN HANDICAP 1800 M
SETHFIRE (NZ) – Jockey A. Mallyon reported that over the concluding stages his mount was inclined to lay in and he was obliged to stop riding to avoid the heels of PURE THOUGHTS, which shifted out.
TARAVIA (NZ) – Raced wide until taking up a position outside the leader approaching the 1000m.
ABOVEFORTY – Leaving the 1700m, shifted in and bumped the hind quarters of ORMOND ROAD and became momentarily unbalanced.
ORMOND ROAD – Tightened shortly after the start after SETHFIRE (NZ) shifted out on jumping. Leaving the 1700m was bumped on the hind quarters by ABOVE FORTY and became momentarily unbalanced. Inconvenienced over the concluding stages when PHARALINE shifted in.
PURE THOUGHTS – Held up rounding the home turn.
AMAHNI'S GIRL – Obliged to race in restricted room leaving the 300m when PAPAL WARS (NZ) shifted out and SETHFIRE (NZ) shifted in under pressure. Jockey J. Lloyd rider of PAPAL WARS (NZ) was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
KEY COMPONENT – Slow to begin.
PHARALINE – Obliged to race in restricted room leaving the 300m when PAPAL WARS (NZ) shifted out and SETHFIRE (NZ) shifted in under pressure. Improved onto the heels of SETHFIRE (NZ) over the concluding stages and was obliged to stop riding and shift in to secure clear running.
Race 2: COASTLINE BMW. THE 2. QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
TOP BLOKE – Over raced during the early stages, shifted wider near the 1000m and bumped with SNITZSTREAM. Forced wider near the 850m when VEGAMEISTER shifted out. Raced wide throughout. Forced wider rounding the home turn.
VEGAMEISTER – Raced keenly during the early stages and at the 850m improved onto heels and as a result shifted out and bumped with TOP BLOKE, forcing TOP BLOKE and SNITZSTREAM wider. Continued to race ungenerously throughout the event. Jockey C. Graham reported her mount raced greenly throughout.
VINTAGE VIBES – Forced wider rounding the home turn. Trainer J. Bellamy was reprimanded pursuant to AR 102(a) for failing to update his stable return after VINTAGE VIBES had been gelded.
CRASH THE PARTY – Held up from the 400m up until the 300m.
SMEXY – Shifted in on jumping.
SNITZSTREAM – Slow to begin. Forced wider near the 850m when VEGAMEISTER shifted out.
REDMISS – Raced wide throughout. Forced wider rounding the home turn.
DUN DARTE CHEAP – Leaving the 450m whilst weakening was inconvenienced when TIDAL POINT shifted out to secure clear running. Jockey R. Maloney reported that the colt travelled strongly until the 700m however after obtaining cover at that point, was under pressure and weakened under riding when rounding the home turn, however, he could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild swelling on the top of its off fore tendon. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised DUN DARTE CHEAP requires a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
HARD AS BROK – Declared a late scratching at 12:18pm after the gelding shifted its near hind shoe and stood on a nail.
Race 3: COASTLINE BMW. THE 3. CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000 M
BATTLE OF VIENNA – Jockey N. Callow stated that he could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance. Co Trainer T. Edmonds stated that the mare is better ridden with cover and more tempo and he would report back in the subsequent days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
PORT ERIN – Began awkwardly.
CROWN GUINEA – Slow to begin.
Race 4: COASTLINE BMW. THE 4. QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M
GOLDEN CROSS – Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced and forced wider near the 700m when RALOS STAR shifted out.
LUCIFER'S WAY – Tightened for room and lost ground near the 700m. Shifted out near the 500m inconvenienced BUBBLY MOON and again shifted out approaching the 400m to secure clear running, inconvenienced BUBBLY MOON and forcing that runner wider.
ABSINTHE CAT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
RALOS STAR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming loose in the mounting yard for a short period and was subsequently cleared to start. Near the 900m tightened for room to the inside of LUCIFER’S WAY which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Near the 700m, severely checked and lost ground from the heels of CITY BOUND which lost ground at that point. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CITY BOUND – Slow into stride. Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 700m which resulted in CITY BOUND being severely checked after making contact with the inside running rail. After taking evidence from J. Bayliss rider of CITY BOUND, N. Callow rider of LUCIFER’S WAY, R. Maloney rider of OSCAR BOOIE and K. Wilson-Taylor rider of BOURBON LANE, it was established that at a point near the 700m, OSCAR BOOIE shifted in and away from BOURBON LANE, despite the efforts of its rider, forcing LUCIFER’S WAY to shift in which forced CITY BOUND to be tightened for room onto the inside running rail. Stewards were satisfied that Jockey R. Maloney was attempting to direct his mount out at this point of the race and therefore took no further action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a puncture wound on its inner off hind thigh and a small abrasion on its off hind tendon. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised CITY BOUND would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
ROSIE CHEEKS – Inconvenienced and forced wider near the 700m when RALOS STAR shifted out. Became unbalanced and lost ground when tightened for room between NANA POWER which shifted in and BOUNDFORHELL which shifted out.
QUEEN ARNI – Slow to begin and then tightened shortly after the start. Improved onto the heels of BUBBLY MOON approaching the 400m and shifted out in order to secure clear running.
NANA POWER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Jockey M. Kennedy reported her mount raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in its near hindleg. Trainer B. Mair was advised NANA POWER would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
BOURBON LANE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BOUNDFORHELL – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages whilst racing ungenerously.
Race 5: COASTLINE BMW. THE 5. COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200 M
BOLD JULIUS – Obliged to alter course when disappointed for a run passing the 400m.
SCRIPT WRITER – Shifted out and bumped LONE ARTIST. Raced wide throughout.
CALVARY – Began awkwardly. Jockey A. Mallyon reported that in his opinion the gelding did not appreciate today’s weight impost and may also be better suited to a drop back in grade.
LONE ARTIST – Bumped after the start and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn.
Race 6: COASTLINE BMW. ELECTRIC. FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200 M
MISS UCHITEL – Over the concluding stages, after improving into restricted room to the inside of MATERIALIST was further tightened for room when HURRICANE HARLOW shifted out and MATERIALIST shifted in after being bumped by MONAZEL.
RETAINER – Raced wide throughout.
HURRICANE HARLOW – Bumped after the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
MATERIALIST – Over the concluding stages shifted in after becoming unbalanced by MONAZEL.
SPIRIT OF STORM – Over the concluding stages, after improving into restricted room to the inside of MATERIALIST was further tightened for room when HURRICANE HARLOW shifted out and MATERIALIST shifted in after being bumped by MONAZEL.
DIBBA DOBBA – Bumped after the start. Over raced during the early stages and raced wide throughout.
MISS MERCY – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages. Near the 800m commenced to lay out and as a result lost ground. Stewards questioned Apprentice M. Philpot regarding her riding in the home straight particularly as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the inside of DIBBA DOBBA near the 300m, Apprentice M. Philpot advised Stewards that she had looked to improve into this run however the filly was laying out, as it had done from the 800m and when MONAZEL shifted out, this run closed and she allowed the horse to continue to shift out looking for clear running. Stewards accepted that MISS MERCY was hanging and accepted the explanation, however, advised Apprentice M. Philpot could have ridden with more vigor at this point of the race in order to secure this position. Disappointed for a run near the 200m and had to be steadied.
MONAZEL – Held up rounding the home turn until passing the 300m.
MIGRATORY – Jockey J. Stanley reported his mount laid in during the middle stages of the event.
Race 7: COASTLINE BMW. PERFORMANCE. CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400 M
FLYWHEEL – Held up for clear running round the home turn and during the early stages of the home straight. Forced wider under pressure in the home straight when NOBLE DECREE (NZ) shifted out under pressure. Jockey N. Callow, rider of NOBLE DECREE (NZ) was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
STARSONUS – Jockey R. Maloney reported that from the wide draw he was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated and his mount finished off the race fairly.
NESCAFFIER – Shifted out after the start.
INTRUDER – When the pace slackened near the 1200m, over raced at heels for a short distance.
LOU VEGA – Raced wide throughout. Jockey R. Dolan reported that from a wide barrier he was advised to ride the gelding conservatively in an attempt to find cover, however he was unable to do so and settled further back than anticipated.
KATERINI – Slow to begin.
MIST OF DAWN – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when NESCAFFIER shifted out. Near the 300m inconvenienced when FLYWHEEL shifted out to secure clear running. Forced wider under pressure in the home straight when NOBLE DECREE (NZ) shifted out under pressure.
Race 8: COASTLINE BMW. EXPO EVENT. BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1800 M
LOYALTY COUNTS – Slow to begin and then hampered shortly after. Inconvenienced leaving the 200m when KHAMIS shifted out and away from BOLD TYRANT which shifted out under pressure.
METCALFE – Over raced during the early stages. Obliged to race in restricted room near the 850m and lost ground as a result. After passing the 300m shifted out around the heels of STAR CHANCE which was shifting out under pressure and when doing so bumped with DECEMBER DIAMOND, causing both runners to become unbalanced. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported the gelding didn’t appreciate racing between horses, particularly approaching the 800m and further added that being second up, METCALFE was also one paced when asked for an effort and would improve with a step up in distance.
GUARDED OPTIMIST (NZ) – Slow to begin.
LA COMETA (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn and had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight behind the weakening LOVE ‘N’ GAMES.
SEERESS – Held up rounding the home turn up.
SWIFT SON – Raced wide throughout.
KHAMIS – Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 200m, momentarily inconvenienced when BOLD TYRANT shifted out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BOLD TYRANT – Had some difficulty securing clear running on entering the home straight.
DECEMBER DIAMOND – Raced wide throughout.
OPTIMUS MAXIMUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
STAR CHANCE – Raced wide throughout.
