Race 7: STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS CLASS 1 PLATE                1200 Metres

The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes when ADRANOS refused to load and when LONE ARTIST became fractious in the barriers, getting its near foreleg over the side barrier partition. LONE ARTIST underwent a veterinary examination and along with ADRANOS was declared a late scratching.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets on both runners be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

ADRANOS:
1st - KIWI SPIRIT 31c win, 23c place
2nd – RETAINER 32c place
3rd – RICKYTHESTEAMBOAT 26c place

LONE ARTIST:
1st - KIWI SPIRIT 22c win, 14c place
2nd – RETAINER 20c place
3rd – RICKYTHESTEAMBOAT 16c place

Trainer’s representative for the T. Gollan stable was advised that ADRANOS will require two further barrier certificates, with one being required to be completed in an official trial, prior to racing again. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that LONE ARTIST will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

GAGNANTE ENCHERE – Raced wide throughout.

RED FEATHER BOA – Near the 250m, laid out under pressure bumping with RICKYTHESTEAMBOAT and became unbalanced.

RETAINER – Began awkwardly. Near the 700m, momentarily raced in restricted room. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 200m. When questioned regarding his riding in the home straight, rider K. Wilson-Taylor advised Stewards that early in the home straight he had been following KETTLEBELL and had envisaged that GAGNANTE ENCHERE would commence to weaken after being obliged to race three wide. He further added that when this did not occur with GAGNANTE ENCHERE tiring as he expected he then became awkwardly placed at the heels of KETTLEBELL. He further added that he had improved to the inside of the heels of GAGNANTE ENCHERE and he felt that he would have had to overly restrain his mount to avoid that runner’s heels in order to shift wider of that runner, therefore he elected to shift inwards to follow KIWI SPIRIT near the 200m. Stewards noted jockey Wilson-Taylor’s explanation.

LIMERO – When asked to comment on the performance, rider K. Wilson-Taylor could offer no excuses apart from that the gelding may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

UMETINI – As jockey J. Bayliss was stood down, he was replaced by jockey T. Marshall.

PROVANCE – Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced when weakening near the 200m when YES TO EXCESS shifted out. Apprentice C. Vitler was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. When asked to comment on the performance, rider J. Guthmann-Chester reported that the gelding was obliged to race wide and also had a tendency to over race and in his opinion, this may have had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

YES TO EXCESS – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

TURBULENT – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running in the home straight and obliged to alter course near the 250m to secure clear running.
