RAETIHI (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride as a result. Raced keenly in the early stages.
DEFIANT BOOM – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance jockey Les Tilley stated that he was disappointed overall with the performance, after beginning and travelling well in the early stages when asked for an effort from the 400m the gelding had failed to let down as expected.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages of the event, particularly his decision to push forward in a wide position and whether there was an opportunity to obtain cover, jockey Paul Hamblin stated that his instructions were to obtain a handy forward position if IMAGINE THAT began well. However, after beginning slowly, he was unable to do so and instead attempted to find a position with cover towards the rear of the field. Jockey Hamblin explained that as he was attempting to find cover, the pace of runners to his inside began to slacken slightly as they shifted back through the field. Rather than restraining his mount significantly to settle further back, he elected to roll forward to obtain a position closer to the rail to avoid being caught wide for the remainder of the event. Jockey Hamblin added that, under different circumstances, he would have preferred to obtain a position with cover earlier, but the combination of the wide barrier draw and the manner in which his mount began the race proved to be detrimental. Stewards noted jockey Hamblin’s comments.

BOITUMELO – Began awkwardly.
FLAWLESS AMBITION – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight. Jockey Minonette Kennedy pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(b) for failing to ride her mount out fully to the end of the race by ceasing her efforts approximately three strides prior to the finish line, which in the opinion of stewards prevented her mount from finishing in a closer position, being 3rd place. Jockey Kennedy’s licence to ride in races was suspended for two weeks, with the suspension commencing midnight 10th June 2026 and to conclude midnight 24th June 2026. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the QRIC penalty guidelines.
