Race 5: NEW PARK SUIT HIRE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1400 M
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into Trainer Ms. Megan Purvis failing to scratch dual acceptor from Race 7 by the required time – being at 5:00pm on acceptance day. Ms. Purvis admitted a breach LR36(6) and after consideration was fined $100.00

Race 1: MITAVITE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1000 M
UMABETT – Slow to begin and bumped on jumping.
SPIRITED – Shifted out at the start bumping UMABET.
MAKEMINEMILO – Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until near the 200 metres. Raced greenly when placed under pressure, proving difficult to ride and then became awkwardly placed on heels approaching the winning post having to be restrained.
SECRET BOOM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
URIS – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
WEBS – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 2: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1000 M
AMNESTY – Shifted out at the start bumping SPIRIT OF GIVING.
SPIRIT OF GIVING – Began awkwardly and bumped on jumping. Unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested.
MIDAS STAR – Began awkwardly and was bumped on jumping. Over-raced in the early stages.
KEEP ON RUNNING – Turned its head to the near side as the start was affected and lost ground.
BELLA ACE – Shifted out at the start bumping MIDAS STAR.
STRATEGIST – Shifted in near the 800 metres tightening the running of GABBY’S READY. Jockey Adam. Sewell was advised to show greater care and be fully clear when shifting ground.
GABBY’S READY – Tightened for room near the 800 metres and steadied.
Race 3: LAWRENCE & HANSON QTIS 2YO CLASSIC PRELUDE – 1000 M
SMALL TOWN HUSSLER – Stood on the right foot of apprentice McKenzie. Apel, who did not require medical attention, when in the saddling enclosure prior to the race. Slow to begin. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
SUPID DATE – Shifted out at the start bumping with WHISKY RIVER and a short distance later was inconvenienced by WHISKY RIVER which shifted in and away from CAROHVIC.
WHISKEY RIVER – Bumped on jumping. Pulled up quickly after passing the winning post. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
NEV – Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping. Laid out for the majority of the race. Stewards noted rider Chris. Meehan exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ one) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.
CAROHVIC – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
NOSEY NEO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 4: LADBROKES EASY FORM BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP – 1609 M
MEDAL (NZ) – Slow to begin.
SECRET LOCATION – Slow into stride.
OUR TURN NOW (NZ) – Bounded in the air on jumping and lost ground. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race. Stewards reviewed the ride of OUR TURN NOW (NZ) with apprentice Leah Martyn, in the company of riding instructor Mr. Carl. Spry, and the tactics she adopted in the middle stages where, after missing the start, she improved forward and raced 3-wide for the majority of the race when other options may have been available to her. In explanation Apprentice Martyn advised her intention had been race in a forward position, however after beginning very awkwardly and settling back in the field, she elected to progress three wide in the middle stages to race closer to the pace. In conclusion the Stewards advised Ms. Martyn that she must consider all options available when in the intended plans or tactics do not eventuate.
STRATHCONA – Over-raced in the middle stages.
I SAY BOOM – Over-raced in the middle stages. Compounded in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO NORTHERN JEWEL QTIS 3YO HANDICAP – 1400 M
MARCH MADNESS – Slow to begin.
MISHANI BURN – Shifted out at the start bumping with TIME TO PROPHET.
TIME TO PROPHET – Shifted in at the start bumping with MISHANI BURN. Forced wider leaving the 800 metres.
HEAD HONCHO – Began awkwardly and bumped by LONHY’S FABRE shortly after the start. Over-raced in the early stages. Stewards noted rider R. Wiggins exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ two) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.
LONHY'S FABRE – Shifted in at the start bumping HEAD HONCHO.
ASTRA STAR – Shifted out to improve leaving the 800 metres forcing TIME TO PROPHET wider.
BETTER THAN WORDS – When asked to explain the performance today jockey Justin Stanley advised that the filly had travelled only fairly throughout in his opinion may have come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer Mr. John. Wigginton advised that it is his intention to send BETTER THAN WORDS for an immediate spell.
Race 6: DENDLE TO O'DONNELL LAST DASH OPEN HANDICAP 1200 M
STATS – Slow to begin.
TURBEAU – Slow to begin. Attempted to buck soon after the start and lost all effective chance. Trainer Mr. Stephen Massingham was advised TURBEAU must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.
GO GETABOY – Slow to begin. Shifted in near the 800 metres placing runners to the inside in restricted room. Apprentice Gabrielle Semmens, in the presence of riding instructor Mr. C.Spry, was severely reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort in similar circumstances to prevent her mounts shifting ground. Raced four wide without cover for the majority of the race..
BEAU RAIN – Shifted out at the start inconveniencing LIDDER VALLEY. Raced in restricted room for short distance near the 800 metres when over-racing. Laid out under pressure in the home and could not be ridden to full advantage.
LIDDER VALLEY – Inconvenienced on jumping by BEAU RAIN which shifted out. Attempted to buck after travelling 100 metres and lost considerable ground... Mr. Stephen Massingham was advised was advised LIDDER VALLEY must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.
FAMILY STAR – Raced in restricted room near the 800 metres when racing to the inside of THE REAL THING.
THE REAL THING – Raced in restricted room near the 800 metres when racing to the inside of GO GETA BOY. Raced three wide for the majority of the race.
Race 7: HYGAIN CLASS 1 PLATE 1200 M
RISKY INVESTMENT – Slow to begin.
OUR FOLLY – Slow to begin. Shifted in abruptly near the 300 metres bumping heavily with READY TIGER before being corrected.
MAJESTIC BLAZE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
READY TIGER – Over-raced in the middle stages. Bumped heavily near the 300 metres and taken off its line by OUR FOLLY which shifted in abruptly.
BELMONT PARK – Difficulties obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
IT’S BEEN A TREK – raced keenly in the middle stages.
