TOWNSVILLE Turf Club - Friday 27th February 2026
Race 10 – Mitavite 0-55 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Stewards concluded an inquiry into the circumstances of GINGER MICK losing ground approaching the 1000 metres. After taking evidence from rider Ryan Wiggins (BURLINGTON ARCADE) and viewing the available patrol footage, Stewards were of the opinion that GINGER MICK was over-racing and became unbalanced momentarily when crossed by BURLINGTON ARCADE. Given all circumstances, the Stewards could not attribute the incident to any one horse or rider, therefore took the matter no further.

Race 10 – Mitavite 0-55 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Stewards concluded an inquiry into the circumstances of BUBBLES’N’FROTH losing ground nearing the 800 metres. After taking evidence from riders Lacey Morrison (BUBBLES‘N’FROTH), apprentice Lauren Guernier (LASER BEAM), who was assisted by Carl Spry and Ivo Fry (WIRED FOR FUN), it was established that BUBBLES’N’FROTH was not comfortable when placed in restricted room for a short distance and had to be steadied. Given all circumstances, no further action was required.

Race 7 – Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Benchmark 65 Handicap (1400 METRES)
CARPACCIO – Trainer Terry McGovern reported that on return to his stables in the days following the event, he had taken blood samples from the horse which upon analysis showed the gelding to be suffering from an airway infection and following veterinary advice was treated, showing a full recovery in the weeks subsequent. Trainer McGovern advised that it would be his intention to continue with the CARPACCIO’S current preparation.

2. Prior to the running of Race 1, the track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 11:15am.
Race 1: 2YO CLASSIC 6TH JUNE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1000M
ALBERTA BOUND – Shifted out on jumping hampering GOLDEN GLAZE and became unbalanced after being bumped on the hind-quarters. When questioned regarding the run of ALBERTA BOUND, rider Ivo Fry could offer no excuses other than that in his opinion the filly, which had not raced since December 2025, would derive benefit from today’s first up run.
CARLANDO – Slow to begin. Trainer Scott Cooper advised Stewards that the gelding had suffered a minor laceration to its off-front leg during the event.
TAMBO'S SISTER – Raced greenly for the majority of the event.
BOOMIOUS – Momentarily steadied passing the 800 metres. Brushed with RED LIGHT POWER passing the 150 metres.
PERSEFONO – Began awkwardly then shifted in hampering GOLDEN GLAZE. Reluctant to shift out from behind runners approaching the 200 metres. Rider Adam Sewell reported at scale that in his opinion PERSEFONO did not feel entirely comfortable in its action over the final 200 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in both fore legs. Trainer Trevor Rowe was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to PERSEFONO racing again.
RED LIGHT POWER – Began awkwardly. Brushed with BOOMIOUS passing the 150 metres.
GOLDEN GLAZE – Slow to begin then hampered shortly after. Raced greenly for the majority of the event.
RACE 2: LADBROKES PUNTER ASSIST RATINGS BAND 0-60 HANDICAP 1000M
GOLDEN OCTAVIAN – Began awkwardly. Shifted in leaving the 100 metres placing LINE OF KINGS in restricted room, resulting in that runner having to be steadied and directed wider.
WIRED FOR FUN – Began awkwardly.
LINE OF KINGS – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 100 metres, was placed in restricted room when GOLDEN OCTAVIAN shifted in, resulting in LINE OF KINGS having to be steadied and directed wider. Rider Ryan Wiggins (GOLDEN OCTAVIAN) was severely reprimanded under AR 131(a) and reminded of his obligation to be fully clear when shifting ground.
RACE 3: MITAVITE MAIDEN HANDICAP (QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE 2&3YO ONLY) 1000M
BALLANDELLA STREET – Slow into stride.
EVITA LASS – Fractious in the mounting yard. Trainer Graham Hughes was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s parading manners. Slow to begin.
RACE 4: BELLE PROPERTY LONGEST LUNCH QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1200M
KRACKACAN – Began awkwardly and shifted in hampering MISTER DOOBEE, which lost ground.
MISTER DOOBEE – Hampered and lost ground on jumping. Momentarily held up for clear running in the early stages of the final straight.
INSTA WORTHY – Improved on the heels of SHE’S A SWEET STAR nearing the 900 metres becoming awkwardly placed on that runner’s heels and as a result, went off stride briefly and lost ground.
SHE'S A SWEET STAR – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance of SHE’S A SWEET STAR, rider Sean Cormack stated that after travelling well in the running, the filly had failed to respond when pressured and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
HOT COCOA – Over-raced in the middle stages.
TARONG – Slow to begin.
RAFF VADER – Slow to begin.
MISTER TIA – Was declared a late scratching at 2:34pm on veterinary advice after undergoing a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on MISTER TIA be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st MISTER DOOBEE 0c win, 3c place
2nd INSTA WORTHY 2c place
3rd GOLD CLASSIC 3c place
Trainer Liliana McCormack was advised that MISTIA TIA would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
RACE 5: HYGAIN OPEN HANDICAP 1200M
ARMOUR FORCE – Slow into stride.
GOING NUCLEAR – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
CHOIR BOY – Inclined to lay in passing the 1000 metres.
COLOURS OF AUTUMN – Slow to begin.
MEDAL (NZ) – Slow to begin.
RACE 6: LOLS COMEDY FESTIVAL 30TH MAY @ CLUDEN PARK CLASS 3 PLATE 1200M
CHARTWELL – Raced wide without cover throughout. Was a late arrival into the mounting enclosure. Trainer Rhien Sewell was reprimanded under AR194 and reminded of his obligation to present his runners to the enclosure by the required time.
SWATOW – Laid out under pressure leaving the 200 metres crowding CIFONELLI out onto BRAVE INTENT, with CIFONELLI being crowded and having to steady. Heavily contacted by CIFONELLI when that runner was being corrected.
ZIPITALIST – Raced wide with cover throughout.
CIFONELLI – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight. Leaving the 150 metres, shifted out becoming awkwardly placed near the heels of BRAVE INTENT, and when being corrected, shifted in making heavy contact with SWATOW, which laid out under pressure.
KHUMBILA – Raced keenly in the early stages.
REDLIGHTS ON – Bounded in the air on jumping. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.
TRAPEZE PLEASURE – Raced wide with cover throughout.
READ 'EM AND WEEP – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from rounding the home turn up to a point leaving the 150 meters.
KIRIKAN (NZ) – Was a late arrival into the mounting enclosure. Trainer Stephen Massingham was reprimanded under AR194 and firmly reminded of his obligation to present his runners to the enclosure by the required time. Began awkwardly. Shifted behind runners in the early stages. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn before shifting across the heels of CHARTWELL approaching the 200 metres to continue to improve.
RACE 7: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1400M
STADIUM OF LIGHT (NZ) – Tightened after the start and lost ground. Apprentice Olivia Kendall (assisted by Riding Master Carl Spry) was spoken to regarding her riding in the middle stages where the gelding raced at the rear of the field and approximately 5 lengths behind the second last horse. STADIUM OF LIGHT then rejoined the filed leaving the 500 metres.
Apprentice Kendall stated that her instructions were to ride the gelding back and make one finishing run. After reviewing the race vision, Apprentice Kendall and Mr Spry acknowledged that the gelding had been allowed to concede more ground than necessary during this period. Whilst acknowledging the instructions, Apprentice Kendall was reminded of her obligation to ensure that her mounts are given every reasonable opportunity to be competitive at all stages of the race.
THIRTEEN UNDER – Bumped on jumping. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
NEW LEVEL (NZ) – Briefly held up rounding the home turn.
FIRST MAN – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn up to a point passing the 200 metres and thereafter had difficulty obtaining clear running.
ECLIPSION – Shifted out at the start bumping THIRTEEN UNDER.
WONDERLAND STAR – Was declared a late scratching at 4.23pm by order of stewards after dislodging rider Rachel Shred in the mounting yard then escaping onto the course proper, galloping an excessive distance before being captured. Rider Rachel Shred was uninjured in this incident. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on WONDERLAND STAR be refunded with the following deductions to apply: A warning was placed on WONDERLAND STAR’sparading manners.
1st NEW LEVEL (NZ) 1c win, 2c place
2nd THIRTEEN UNDER 1c place
3rd RASHFORD 2c place
Trainer Krystin Allender was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s parading manners.
