GENERAL
1. Prior to Race 1, the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
2. Stewards permitted the following overweights.
Race 4. Sean Cormack (LEAN EAGLE) +1.0kg
Race 1: BELLE PROPERTY LONGEST LUNCH 6TH JUNE MAIDEN Handicap 1400M
MADAM NAZAR – Began awkwardly.
ROYAL EDITION – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly throughout the home straight and near the 300 metres, commenced to lay in having to be corrected. Hung out near the 50 metres and when struck with the whip, ducked out and bumped heavily with STREAMELOT (IRE). In assessing this incident the Stewards noted the intractability of STREAMELOT (IRE), however rider Aidan Holt was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and firmly reminded that when in similar situations when his mounts have commenced to shift ground, he must stop and straighten sooner than he did on this occasion.
OSCAR BOOIE – Had to steady near the 1,000 metres when inside when KING CANUTE (Adam Sewell) shifted in when moving forward to the lead. Rider Sewell was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and reminded of his obligations when shifting ground. Trainer Michael Geaney reported that OSCAR BOOIE had been galloped on during the running.
SHADYVALE AL – Raced wide without cover throughout.
STREAMELOT (IRE) – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the turn up to a point nearing the 150 metres before shifting out across heels to improve. Checked near the 50 metres when outside ROYAL EDITION which shifted out under riding. Upon returning to scale rider Lacey Morrison, the rider of STREAMELOT, which dead-heated for second place with ROYAL EDITION, lodged an objection against that runner alleging interference near the 50 metres. After considering submissions and reviewing the available vision of the incident the protest was upheld with STREAMELOT being placed second and ROYAL EDITION being relegated to third.
KING CANUTE – Began awkwardly.
INSTIGATE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
RACE 2: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD Maiden Handicap 1200M
EXCEEDINGLY BRAZEN – Began awkwardly. Over-raced throughout. Had to be steadied off heels near the 600 metres.
SMALL TOWN HUSTLER – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
MAGIC SUNNY DAY – Jumped out at the start and bumped with WE US 'N' CO. Rider Sean Cormack accidently dropped his off-side rein near the 200 metres. Rider Cormack reported that the gelding had hung out throughout. Stewards questioned trainer Terry McGovern regarding the improved performance of MAGIC SUNNY DAY, which had finished back in its two previous race starts. In explanation, Mr McGovern stated that the gelding had worked well leading into this race and had benefited from a step up in distance.
TORANAGA – Bumped at the start. Held up rounding the turn and for the majority of the home straight, only obtaining clear running passing the 75 metres.
LIVELY SPIRIT – Jumped out at the start bumping the hindquarters of TORANAGA. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.
AMBER AFFAIR – Slow to begin. Held up briefly near the 200 metres.
WE US 'N' CO – Jumped in at the start and bumped with MAGIC SUNNY DAY. Laid in and bumped with TORANAGA near the 300 metres; hampered approaching the winning post after bumping with TORANAGA which shifted out.
VALADORE – Raced keenly when wide throughout.
RACE 3: LADBROKES PUNTER ASSIST RATINGS BAND 0-55 Handicap 1400M
THAT'S IT – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly throughout.
LOOMING ONE – Bumped shortly after jumping as a result of SAVVY THINKER jumping in abruptly. Over-raced in the middle stages. Shifted out across heels near the 300 metres to continue to improve.
FOOLS PLAY – Shifted out across heels near the 350 metres to obtain clear running.
TO LOVE SOMEBODY – Hampered on jumping when SAVVY THINKER jumped in at the start.
SAVVY THINKER – Jumped in abruptly at the start hampering TO LOVE SOMEBODY. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
WICKED GAMES – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
PRINCESS SHANGHAI – Slow into stride. Raced wide without cover in the early stages before obtaining the lead nearing the 900 metres.
SHE'S A SWEET STAR – Was declared a late scratching at 10:50am due to an elevated temperature. Trainer T. McGovern was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to SHE’S A SWEET STAR racing again.
RACE 4: TRADIE’S RACEDAY FRIDAY 8TH MAY OPEN Handicap 1000M
SPEED LEGEND – Slow into stride.
MISSILE THUNDER – Improved onto the heels of ROWEINER'S DANCE near the 500 metres and when being steadied, shifted out and bumped with HELLISH which was dictated wider.
HELLISH – Bumped on the hind-quarters nearing the 800 metres when RUSSIAN MINT ducked in abruptly. Dictated wider after being bumped near the 500 metres when MISSILE THUNDER shifted out. Was attended to by the on-course veterinarian for a superficial laceration to the near hind leg.
TURBEAU – Slow to begin then blundered. Laid out leaving the 600 metres crowding BLOOMIN’ RIPPER out onto the heels of RUSSIAN MINT, with BLOOMIN RIPPER having to be steadied in consequence. Briefly held up for clear running shortly upon entering the home straight.
RUSSIAN MINT – Began awkwardly. Ducked in abruptly near the 800 metres and had to be straightened. Raced wide without cover throughout.
LEAN EAGLE – Began awkwardly and as a result contacted the barriers, losing ground.
BLOOMIN' RIPPER – Over-raced in the early stages. Crowded and steadied near the 600 metres. Held up rounding the final turn until leaving the 250 metres when taken out across heels to obtain clear running.
RACE 5: MITAVITE BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1000M
RAMIUS – Shifted out at the start and bumped with FONEELEVEN. Raced wide throughout.
HOT PURSUIT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
MCLOVIN – Was presented at the inspection area without earmuffs, which part of its declared gear. Given no earmuffs could be located permission was granted for the gelding to race without this gear. When questioned Trainer Ms. Sharlee Hoffman advised that she had processed a gear change request to have the earmuffs removed however this change had not been affected. Given all circumstances Ms. Hoffman was firmly reminded to ensure that when processing gear requests she must ensure that the change is correctly processed. Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages and near the 400 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Laid out under pressure over final 250 metres.
SENSATIONABULL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arrival on course having not raced for an extended period and was passed fit to start.
SHE'S A BEAUTY – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide in the middle stages. Laid out and away from MCLOVIN over the concluding stages resulting in rider Sean Cormack being unable to fully test the mare.
REMEMBER ROY – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out hampering BELLA ACE.
BELLA ACE – Began very awkwardly then hampered shortly after.
FONEELEVEN – Began awkwardly then bumped shortly after.
RACE 6: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200M
VADAMOS QUEEN (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arrival on course having not raced for an extended period and was passed fit to start. Began awkwardly and bumped then blundered and lost ground.
NOLAN – Slow to begin.
CHARTWELL – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages. Held up in the early part of the home straight, before obtaining clear running near the 200 metres.
TYMON – Slow to begin. Over-raced for a short distance leaving the 1000 metres.
RUM RUMBLE – Began awkwardly.
LINE OF KINGS – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages.
RACE 7: LOLS COMEDY FESTIVAL 30TH MAY @ CLUDEN PARK BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1400M
HYDE PARK – Began awkwardly.
SAND 'N' POWER – Stewards questioned rider Ivo Fry regarding the run of SAND 'N' POWER which performed below market expectations. In explanation, rider Fry stated the gelding had travelled well during the running, however when placed under pressure had failed to respond and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of SAND 'N' POWER revealed no obvious abnormalities. Connections undertook to advise the Stewards should any relevant matter become apparent in coming days.
JOHN JOSEPH – Inclined to over-race in the early stages.
KEEP ON RUNNING – Was declared a late scratching at 10:50am due to an elevated temperature. Trainer T. McGovern was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to KEEP ON RUNNING racing again.
KIRIKAN (NZ) – Slow to begin.
