Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner. Raced 3 wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination revealed the presence of blood in one nostril. Race 4: Magic Millions QTIS 2yo Plate – 1050m
On return to scale a protest was lodged by D. Browne, rider of the 4th placegetter, Pepperano, against Spinaker Run being declared 3rd, alleging interference in the home straight. After hearing submissions from the relevant parties, stewards established that near the 150m Spinaker Run shifted out, resulting in Pepperano shifting to the inside of that runner in an endeavour to obtain clear running. Spinaker Run then shifted back in, resulting in Pepperano having to shift to the outside of that runner. However stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the degree of interference suffered to Pepperano warranted a reversal of placings and therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

PUFF’S GIRL – Laid out rounding the home turn.
ZAHA’S ACE – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider T. Bell advised that after beginning well he rode his mount along in an endeavour to obtain its customary leading position. However when runners drawn to his outside showed superior pace, he was forced to take a trailing position near the 1000m. He added that shortly after obtaining this position, the mare failed to travel strongly on the bit and was under pressure, proving disappointing. T. Bell added that, in his opinion, given the established racing pattern of Zaha’s Ace, in his opinion, it was not suited when unable to lead in tonight’s event. Trainer T. Sears expressed disappointment with the performance, however advised that the mare would now be sent for an immediate spell. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
