GENERAL

As Apprentice E. Molloy and Jockey P. Hammersley were unable to fulfil their engagements at the meeting due to injury, rider replacements were permitted as per Stewards’ Race-day Summary. Apprentice Molloy and Jockey Hammersley were advised that they would require medical clearances prior to riding again. When Apprentice M. Philpot was unavailable due to delays at another race-meeting, Stewards permitted replacements as per the Steward’s Race-day Summary.
 

Race 1: TTC MEMBER CHRISTINE TAPE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1890m)

FONZIE ROCKS – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey C. Bayliss advised the gelding became under heavy pressure in the middle stages and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
COSMIC INSANITY – Improved onto the heels of the weakening FONZIE ROCKS rounding the home-turn before being disappointed for a run between that runner and SHALZER entering the home straight. Shifted in off heels near the 300m to obtain clear running.
 
SHALZER – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
A DEVIL'S CHANCE – Commenced to weaken badly from the 800m before being eased down in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Savva stated that the gelding became awkward in its action near the 800m and commenced to give ground, and for this reason she elected to ease her mount down. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 91 Lengths, revealed mild signs of tying up. Trainer G. Barbierato was advised that given the performance, the gelding would be required to trial prior to racing again.
 
TOY DANDY – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first occasion. Trainer’s Representative K. Kropp was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
 

Race 2: WAGNER CIVIL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200m)

LAKE NAGAMBIE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of the rider and was deemed to be unsuitable to race when found to be lame in the near-hindleg. The gelding was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1:32pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on LAKE NAGAMBIE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
30 cents in the dollar for the winner
21 cent in the dollar for the place of the winner
34 cents in the dollar for second place
26 cents in the dollar for third place
 
Trainer L. Powell was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
 
DASHING BASICS – Shifted in when not fully clear of HELLO LOVELY near the 900m which was obliged to steady. Jockey J. Molloy was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Contacted near the 400m with VORKUTA which shifted ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild signs of tying up.
 
FENDBAR – Tightened for room on jumping. Shifted in when not fully clear of HEAVENLY LOVE near the 800m which was tightened for room and momentarily steadied. Jockey D. Smith was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
HEROIC BEACH – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
HEAVENLY LOVE – Slow to begin. Crowded near the 800m and steadied when FENDBAR shifted in. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
VORKUTA – Contacted near the 400m. Shifted in when not fully clear of HELLO LOVELY passing the winning post which was obliged to steady. Jockey N. Tomizawa was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
HELLO LOVELY – Steadied near the 900m when DASHING BASICS shifted in. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Steadied passing the winning post when VORKUTA shifted in.
 
TOPPED’UP - Began awkwardly and was contacted. Laid out rounding the home-turn. Commenced to weaken under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey K. Zechner stated in his opinion, the filly may have resented the tongue tie. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer’s Representative G. Geran was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s record for the poor performance.
 
SCRUFFY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
 
Race 3: LIVEWIRED ELECTRICAL MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)

ALZURRI – Slow to begin.
 
HE IS THE KISS – Began awkwardly. Momentarily crowded near the 1000m by NORTH COURT.
 
ROIGARD – Began awkwardly.
 
NORTH COURT – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ROTHWEILER – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages and subsequently settled further back than may have been expected. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
RUPEEZY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
WORLDY SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and contacted. Laid out rounding the home-turn and had to be steadied off the heels of HE IS THE KISS. Momentarily crowded for room between AUTUMN SALUTE and HE IS THE KISS near the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
AUTUMN SALUTE – Began awkwardly and contacted. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
HIGHLAND KITTY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 4: SHERRIN RENTALS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1300m)

NERANO – Began awkwardly shifted in and contacted NEVER GIVE UP.
 
NEVER GIVE UP – Began awkwardly shifted out and contacted NERANO.
 
THIS IS ONE – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight before commencing to give ground. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey K. Matheson could offer no explanation. Trainer K. Kemp subsequently advised on Sunday, 11 May 2025 that the gelding had pulled up satisfactorily and that he was at a loss to explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr Kemp was advised that given the performance, the gelding would be required to trial prior to racing again.
 
CELESTIAL HARBOUR – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels near the 700m and head to be steadied. Shifted out off heels near the 300m to obtain clear running.
 
GRANITE PRINCE – Crowded between runners and restrained off heels soon after the start and lost ground. As a consequence settled further back than may have been expected.
 
GALWAY HUSSLER – Steadied near the 800m to avoid heels when racing keenly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
JUNE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 

Race 5: SHANNON SIGN COMPANY CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1100m)

PUNGO (NZ) – Over-raced throughout the early stages. Held-up for clear running for some distance passing the 400m.
 
JULY – Shifted in when not fully clear of THAT’S AN EXTRA near the 900m which was steadied, carried inwards and contacted IMPERIONESS. Jockey N. Tomizawa was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
THAT'S AN EXTRA – Steadied and carried inwards near the 900m and contacted IMPERIONESS.
 
DISCERNING – Began very awkwardly, before shifting in abruptly for some distance after the start and lost ground. Tailed the field in the early stages. Hung-in under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride out. Trainer M. Currie was advised that given the mare’s recent history of poor racing manners, the mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on two consecutive occasions prior to racing again. Mr Currie advised that consideration would now be given to the mare’s immediate racing future.
 
VOCALS – Began awkwardly. Eased near the 900m when trailing THAT’S AN EXTRA which had to be steadied.
 
IMPERIONESS – Began awkwardly. Contacted and crowded near the 900m when THAT’S AN EXTRA was steadied and shifted in.
 
 
Race 6: HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY MIA BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP (1200m)

CABRINELLA – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
INATICK – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
PHYSICIST – Shifted in when not fully clear of BOOMING FAST near the 100m which was obliged to steady and shift out to avoid heels. Apprentice A. Graham was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
KINROSS LANE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Shifted in and contacted MOOD KILLER near the 550m.
 
ARCTIC BEAR – Shifted out when not fully clear of BOOMING FAST near the 1000m which was steadied and shifted in to avoid heels. Jockey D. Smith was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
MOOD KILLER – Raced keenly on heels for some distance near the 1000m before shifting out and contacting BOOMING FAST. Contacted near the 550m with KINROSS LANE. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery.
 
JAMAICAN MECRAZY – Slow to begin before being tightened between runners. Steadied off heels near the 500m.
 
BOOMING FAST – Steadied off heels and shifted in near the 1000m when ARTIC BEAR shifted out and contacted MOOD KILLER. Steadied and shifted out to avoid heels near the 100m when PHYSICIST shifted in near the 100m.
 
AITUTAKI – Following a report from the Compliance Assurance Team, Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the necessitation for the gelding to be scratched from its engagement.
 
 
Race 7: PROVINCIAL DISTRIBUTORS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1625m)

EARL OF DEVON (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
ROCKY RICH – Began awkwardly and contacted LET’SGO HUGO. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey C. Bayliss could offer no tangible explanation and that the gelding proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P. Webster subsequently reported on Sunday, 11 May 2025 that the gelding had pulled up satisfactorily.
 
LET'SGO HUGO – Began very awkwardly shifted in and contacted ROCKY RICH.
 
MALECON – Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn. Shifted in off heels near the 300m to obtain clear running. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, Trainer M. Nolan stated that the gelding had been pleasing in its work throughout the preparation, and that it had benefitted from a favourable position in running and being up in distance. He further added that the gelding had endured wide runs in its previous starts for the preparation. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
BROOKLYN DAISY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
BANKSIA BEACH – Slow to begin.
 
SWIFT SON – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GRACIE BLUE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
