AMERICAN CONQUEST- Hampered at the start between GOODES which began awkwardly and shifted in and ROMANTIC BUBBLE which began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced keenly in the early stages whilst being restrained. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in when under pressure over the concluding stages of the event. Apprentice rider C. Sutherland reported near the 100m as he was making ground his mount commenced to hang in, shifting away from BEAU’S GIRL and as a result proved difficult to ride out fully to the line.

KIRKSVILLE - Began awkwardly.

LET LOOSE LADIES (NZ) - Which had not raced since January 2024, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore. As a result, LET LOOSE LADIES (NZ) was declared a late scratching at 4.33 pm.

Lenton explained that as she was making ground on KIRKSVILLE, she was mindful of that gelding laying in slightly and as to not be disappointed for running to that gelding’s inside, she elected to shift wider to maintain clear running. Stewards noted her comments.

Baker reported that although her mount was racing in a three wide position without cover, she felt that her mount was comfortable and traveled well underneath her. She added when she asked for an effort at the entrance to the straight, he mount commenced to lay in and was then disappointing to the finish. C. Baker further advised that in her opinion the gelding may appreciate a freshen up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recover with bilateral noise present in the lungs.

THE LOUVRE - Near the 800m had to restrain when close to the heels of BLANTON’S RUN which had shifted in and away from REVALENE (C. Baker) which had shifted in marginally before being corrected by its rider. Apprentice C. Baker was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Approaching the 200m when laying in, shifted in abruptly and continued to lay in proving difficult for Apprentice J Metcalfe to ride out in her normal manner.

RACE 3:SES ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP          1300 M

The start of Race 3 was delayed by approximately 4 minutes due to the refitting of gear on BOVIDAE and YES TO EXCESS.

WARILLA GORILLA – Began awkwardly and shift in.

BOVIDAE- After being loaded became very fractious in the barriers, attempting to burrow under the front of the gates, whereby the bridle of the gelding came off. As a result, was required to have the bridle reapplied in the gates and then BOVIDAE was removed from the barriers to allow the bridle to be adjusted prior to being reloaded. BOVIDAE is now suspended and must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on two (2) occasions due to being fractious. Shortly after the start was tightened for room between TOUCH OF GRACIE which jumped out and WARRILLA GORILLA jumping in at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

YES TO EXCESS- On arrival to the barriers required the tongue tie to be adjusted. Passing the 200m was disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of POWER OF SUCCESS and as a result had to be restrained. Approaching the 100m elected to shift out and as a result was held up on the heels of POWER OF SUCCESS before shifting wider near the 75m to obtain clear running.

ROYAL BOMBADIER- Had some difficulty obtaining clear running at the top of the straight. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

Prior to the declaration of Correct Weight, apprentice B. Wheeler (YES TO EXCESS, 4th place) and connections of the stable viewed the Stewards patrol footage before lodging an objection against D. Boche (POWER OF SUCCESS, 3rd place) alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage it was established that at a point near the 200m YES TO EXCESS was disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of POWER OF SUCCESS, which had rolled in slightly and as a result was restrained. Further, approaching the 100m B. Wheeler (YES TO EXCESS) shifted out and as a result has difficulty obtaining completely clear running whilst on the heels of POWER OF SUCCESS before shifting wider to obtain clear running from the 75m. After considering the interference and the margin, Stewards could not be comfortable satisfied that if the interference had not occurred that YES TO ECESS would have placed in advance of POWER OF SUCCESS and as a result dismissed the objection and declared Correct Weight on the Judges numbers.

At a subsequent inquiry rider D. Boche was advised to exercise care when shifting ground.

RACE 4:WATCON BUILDING GROUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1300 M

SMART RECOGNITION - Raced keenly during the early stages of the event, over-raced whilst being restrained before finding cover at the 1000m. Rider M Hellyer was reminded of his obligation to not excessively slow his mount through the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider M Hellyer reported that it was his intention to settle in the lead, but as riders to his inside were showing superior speed and intent to be forward, he elected to restrain his mount to find cover as to avoid racing unnecessarily wide. He added that as he commenced to restrain his mount, the pace of the race slowed and at this point, as he was of a mindset to now find cover, he continued to restrain his mount eventually finding cover. He further added that his mount wanted to lay in under pressure throughout, particularly in the straight and as a result he elected to ease his mount down over the final 100m of the event. After viewing the patrol footage, M Helleyer agreed with Stewards that he may have been better suited, allowing his mount to roll forward when the tempo of the race allowed it.

LUDIK - Shortly after the start was eased and hampered when close to the heels of SWITCHBLADE, which had shifted away from HOLLYWOOD EPIC. Near the 1000m when the tempo of the race slackened improved up onto the heels of SMART RECOGNITION, which was restraining to find cover and as a result had to steady. RACE 6:PLATINUM GLASS & SECURITY CLASS 3 HANDICAP   1625 M

FARNBOROUGH (IRE)- Began awkwardly. Trainer B. Healey was asked for an explanation of the improved performance of FARNBOROUGH (IRE). He explained that the gelding, which was new to his stable, was unable to trial in the lead up to his first up run at Warwick, due to the weather and abandonment of trials. He added although without a trial and over an unsuitable distance, he was disappointed that the horse didn’t let down to the finish first up. He further added that with the benefit of the first up run and a step up in distance the stable was expected a forward showing and he attributed this to the improved performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed noise in the right lung, which could have been attributed to exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhaging. Trainer Nick Beck reported to Stewards that on return to the stables blood was found present at the right nostril. As a result, Stewards advised N. Beck that SHINTANGO is now suspended from racing under the provisions of AR79(8) and is required to complete a gallop of at least 1000m in the presence of the Stewards prior to racing. N Beck further advised that the gelding will now be sent for a spell.

Stewards inquired into the reasons surrounding the resaddling of LOVE TO BE PROUD, where it was established that between the time rider M. Savva weighed out and the gelding being presented to the mounting yard the breastplate had been misplaced. As M Savva wished to ride with one, the mare was resaddled in the enclosure and the breastplate added. Although Stewards put the incident down to human error a representative for trainer B. Puckeridge and rider M. Savva were advised to be more mindful in relation to gear and the saddling of horses.

He reported that at the 600m his mount came under pressure and after being bumped and hampered near the 500m, commenced to give ground and failed to travel from this point. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer S. Mclean had no explanation for the performance other than in his opinion the filly may not have appreciate the Toowoomba racing circuit. He added that the filly had returned to his stables and been examined by his veterinary who found no issues. A post race blood was taken for analysis. Steward advised Mr. Mclean that the filly will now be required to jump out or trial prior to its next engagement due to its performance.
