GENERAL

The explanation for M Hellyer being replaced on TOUCH OF GRACIE in Race 2 was accepted.

Due to an accident near the Gold Coast, several riders were delayed arriving on course or unable to make tonight’s meeting. Rider changes as per the Stewards Summary.

Several floats and vehicles were randomly searched by Stewards.

RACE 1:SAFETY AUDITING WELLBEING SERVICES QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP         1050 M

CONCERNED – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start was bumped when tightened for room between JASMINTINA and ROYAL DIAMOND both which shifted ground.

MISHANI ADIOS – Began awkwardly.

NIFTY'S TREASURE – Apprentice C Krahnen had no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that filly had a slight heart murmur, which may have contributed to the filly’s performance. Trainer M. Nolan reported he would get NIFTY’S TREASURE accessed by his stable veterinarian and report back to Stewards any findings.

TAP OUT – Passing the 100m shifted in abruptly.

HIDE THE PIERATA – Near the 900m had to be steadied when in restricted room to the inside of NIFTY’S TREASURE which shifted in when not quite clear (C Krahnen). Apprentice C. Krahnen was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident. Held up for clear running from the 300m until passing the 200m.

NAUGHTY NANNA - Over the concluding stages had to be eased when MISHANI ADIOS (O. Kendall) shifted in under riding. Apprentice O. Kendall was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident.

ROYAL DIAMOND  - Passing the 800m had to be eased when in restricted room between CONCERNED (H Richardson) which had shifted in marginally and NIFTY’S TREASURE (App C Krahnen) which shifted out. Both riders were asked to show greater care under similar circumstances. Near the 75m after obtaining a neat run to the outside of CONCERNED was hampered and carried wider when CONCERNED had been carried out by JASMINTINA (S. Callow). Apprentice S. Callow was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident.

CRIMSON COMMANDER - Slow into stride. Near the 900m had to be steadied after racing up close the heels of HIDE THE PIERATA and whilst being steadied made contact with the inside running rail. Approaching the 400m was briefly held up when in restricted room between NIFTY’S TREASURE and TAP OUT. Near the 50m had to be steadied away from the heels of ROYAL DIAMOND which had been carried out.

JASMINTINA - Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

RACE 2:REFINED REFRIGERATION SOLUTIONS BM70 HANDICAP   1300 M

CAPO STRADA – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running for a short distance approaching and passing the 300m.

AMENOPHIS – Prior to start being affected reared up and was fractious in the gates. Rider D Boche reported he elected from the wide draw to restrain his mount in the early stages to obtain cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

DEMITASSE - Shortly after the start was hampered between DATA LEAK and MISHANI RENEGADE both which shifted ground.

WARILLA GORILLA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in regards to her riding in the early stages, particularly after she established a position on the rail, electing to shift out to the outside of the leader. Apprentice K. Lenton explained the gelding can race keenly and so after REJOICED had crossed her in the early stages, she elected to shift out to give the gelding clear running rather than restraining and trailing that gelding. When questioned in relation to her tactics rounding the home turn, K Lenton explained that the gelding was travelling well and in previous starts has had a tendency to lay in, so she elected to shift out in an attempt to mitigate the horses tendency to lay in. She further added on review of the Stewards patrol footage, that she may have shifted out in the straight wider than necessary and as a result covered some additional ground. Although WARILLA GORILLA had won the race, K. Lenton agreed with Stewards that she may have been better suited maintaining her position on the fence in the early stages of the race and she may have not been required to shift so wide in the home straight.

DATA LEAK  - Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Rider S. Bogenhuber reported that in her opinion the gelding is better ridden with a sit and has recommended to connections to remove the blinkers for its next start.

 RACE 3:A LITTLE SWEETNESS BM55 HANDICAP          1625 M

SOMETHIN IN ORANGE – Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.

ADVANCE TO JAFFA – Began very awkwardly and as a result was slow away. Lost contact with the bulk of the field during the early stages despite the efforts of its rider.

MISTER MIGHTY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Passing the winning post had to steady away from the heels of BAMBINO DI VINO (M Savva) which shifted in. M Savva was advised to take greater care under similar circumstances.

SOUTHOFTHEBOARDER – Rider M. Helleyer reported that it was not his intention to lead in today’s event, but he was instructed to attempt be positive on the gelding, which does get back in its races. He added that after giving the gelding a squeeze, it showed superior speed than others and from his inside draw found the lead with little effort.

BUMP'N'RUN – Change of tactics – Intention to be more forward – Raced in a midfield position, wide without cover. Connections were reprimanded under the provisions of AR100(1)(b) for the late notice of the change of tactics to Stewards.

BAMBINO DI VINO – Slow into stride.

SPRING RAIN – Near the 400m, when weakening, briefly raced in restricted room between BUMP’N’RUN and FLYING PHOENIX. Rider H. Richardson had no explanation for the performance of the filly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery.

BOLERO – When questioned on the tactics adopted on the mare, particularly her riding from the 1400m-800m. Apprentice O. Kendall stated     she had been given no specific instruction other than to help the mare travel and finish the race off strong, as the mare usually races best over a distance further than today’s 1625m. She added that in her opinion a majority of 1625m races at Toowoomba have a high tempo in the early stages due to the field finding their positions before a tight right-hand turn passing the 1400m. She further explained that after the mare began on terms, she elected to do little work in the early stages to help the mare travel as she was instructed to do. She then felt that her mount traveled well and even though she was some distance from the bulk of the field, she was comfortable in the manner she rode her mount. Stewards noted her comments but told O. Kendall that in their opinion she must show greater effort to stay in contact with the field, particularly in the early stages and although her mount was travelling comfortably, that she would have been better suited placing her mount under some pressure to be closer through this stage of the event.

RACE 4:REFINED REFRIGERATION SOLUTIONS BM55 HANDICAP   1050 M

COPPER SUNSET  - Began awkwardly resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Rider K Lenton reported her mount wanted to hang throughout the event making it difficult to be ridden out in the home straight. Near the 150m, when hanging out shifted out and away from PEACH GALANTES, which had shifted out. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant findings.

BARBRA – Rider L Tilley Reported that after being wide in the early stages he continued to ride forward before crossing to lead at the 800m. He added after crossing to the lead his mount raced keenly and despite his efforts, he was unable to restrain the mare. As a result BARBRA travelled at a faster tempo that he would of preferred, which in his opinion was detrimental to the overall performance of the mare.

GOOSE STEP – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

EZEIZA – Raced wide for the majority. Approaching the 150m altered course to continue into clear running.

BRAVE EMMA – Stood flat footed, as a result was slow to begin (3L). Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Trainer K Kemp was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for standing flat footed.

HUMAN TOUCH – From a wide barrier was restrained in the early stages to obtain a position with cover.

TIME TO CRY – Near the 250m, when weakening was momentarily hampered by HUMAN TOUCH, which had shifted out (J. LLOYD). J Lloyd was advised to exercise care when shifting ground.

PEACH GALANTES – Approaching the 850m, when laying in, was eased away from the heels of COPPER SUNSET. Passing the 400m was momentarily held up when racing in restricted room between VOIGNER and EZEIZA.

RACE 5:THE VIOLET LITTLE MEMORIAL CUP 0 - 60 HANDICAP   1300 M

POWER PACK – Passing the 200m rider lost the use of the near side reign.

SWITCHBLADE – Slow into stride. Approaching the 1000m was eased when in restricted room to the inside of POWER PACK which had shifted in and away from KINDLY which resulted in SWITCHBLADE becoming unbalanced. Shifted out rounding the home turn and bumped JOHNNY THE KID.

JOHNNY THE KID – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Leaving the 1000m had to be eased when close to the heels of MYSTERY POWER which had stepped out when over-racing. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. Near the 500m was hampered by POWER PACK, which had shifted out. Bumped by SWITCHBLADE approaching the 200m.

TARTAN TIGER – Raced keenly in the early stages.

MYSTERY POWER - Raced keenly in the early stages. Passing the 1000m when racing keenly had to be steadied when close to the heels of TUESDAY (M Savva) which shifted in when not clear. Rider M Savva was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident. Raced wide without cover from the 1000m.

TUESDAY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 100m shifted out to attempt to improve into clear running.

IMAREALAMERICAN – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.

DOLLY DISCO – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start was hampered when in restricted room between SWITCHBLADE and POWER PACK, both which shifted ground.       Raced keenly in the early stages.

KINDLY (NZ) - Shifted out near the passing the 600m to commence a three wide run. Near the 500m, hampered and carried out. After reviewing the available Stewards patrol footage, apprentice K. Lenton agreed with Stewards that she may have been better suited by maintaining her position near the 600m, rather than shifting out.

GRANDEUR ROSE – Began awkwardly.

RACE 6:REFINED REFRIGERATION SOLUTIONS 0 - 60 HANDICAP   1300 M

PUREZZA – Raced keenly in the lead. Apprentice J. Metcalfe reported that with the mare stepping up in distance she settled in the lead with little effort, which was closer than expected.

STROMBOLI DELIGHT – Bounded as the start was affected. Rider L Tilley reported that after racing wide in the early stages he attempted to find cover but was unable to do so for a majority of the event. He added when placed under pressure at the 600m, his mount only responded fairly and that in his opinion the mare would appreciate racing over a further distance than today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed harsh sounds in the right lung, which could be attributed to a degree of exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhaging.

HEROIC DELANEYS – Restrained in the early stages from the wide draw. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

WEST CORK – Began awkwardly shifting out hampering MIDNIGHT MIRACLE. Raced keenly in the early stages. Passing the 1000m when racing keenly had to be steadied when close to the heels of STROMBOLI DELIGHT (L Tilley) which shifted in. Rider L Tilley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident.

SHE'S BRUTAL – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Passing the 400m was brushed and hampered by HEROIC DELANEY’S which shifted out to improve. Apprentice K. Lenton reported that in her opinion, as it has been a month between runs for the mare, who had been an emergency that failed to gain a start for last week’s meeting, SHE’S BRUTAL would derive fitness benefit from today’s run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be coughing and to have minor lacerations to both hind pasterns.

SHOT DOWN BY LOVE – Laid out under pressure in the straight.

MIDNIGHT MIRACLE – Slow to begin and then hampered shortly after the start and lost ground when WEST CORK shifted out. Approaching the 150m eased and shifted out before being briefly held up on the heels of DON’T STOP ME NOW which was racing greenly under pressure. Approaching 50m shifted back in to obtain clear running. Approaching the winning post raced in restricted room to the inside of DON’T STOP ME NOW.

JEDIAH - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due racing on 3 June 2026 and was subsequently cleared to start.

RACE 7:HAPPY QUEENSLAND DAY QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE       870 M

TROOPER SAM – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Approaching the 400m, was bumped and severely hampered by ZOUSAIN’S CHOICE, who when racing fiercely, was bumped by DRAGON LILLY (D. Boche). Stewards inquired into this incident and after taking evidence from D. Boche (DRAGON LILLY), H. Shaw (ZOUSAIN’S CHOICE) and H. Richardson (TROOPER SAM), it was established that at a point approaching the 400m ZOUSAIN’S CHOICE, which was racing fiercely, had pulled H. Shaw into a neat position between TROOPER SAM and DRAGON LILLY. Shortly after DRAGON LILLY shifted out slightly. Although Stewards lay the blame of this incident primarily on the racing manners of ZOUSAIN’S CHOICE, they do believe that there was a shift from DRAGON LILLY (D. Boche) which had contributed to the significant nature of the interference and so severely reprimanded rider D. Boche under the provisions of AR131(a). Furthermore, a warning was placed on ZOUSAIN’S CHOCIE for its racing manners. Rider H. Richardson reported to Stewards that her mount became under pressure from the 500m and then after suffering interference approaching the 400m the gelding failed to find anything in straight and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant findings.

ZOUSAIN'S CHOICE – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. In the middles stages of the event took charge of its rider and as a result raced fiercely through the middle stages. Approaching the 400m, was bumped and carried out by DRAGON LILLY, which has shifted out. Rider H. Shaw reported that his intention was to settle toward the rear of the field on the gelding but shortly after the start ZOUSAIN’S CHOICE began to race keenly and then took charge and was extremely difficult for him to ride. Trainer W Kropp was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its racing manners.

AEROPOWER – Held up for clear running passing the 400m until approaching the 200m.

ALIZA - Raced wide in the early stages, near the 800m improved up close to the heels of GYPSY JOY and was steadied out.

DRAGON LILLY – Began awkwardly. Shifted out near the 400m, hampering ZOUSAIN’S CHOICE. Near the 300m, shifted out and bumped with ZOUSAIN’S CHOICE whereby DRAGON LILLY BECAME unbalanced. Raced greenly under pressure.

FARAWAY MEMO – First starter, performed below market expectations. Rider T. Brooker was at a loss to explain the performance but advised that the filly will be better with further racing experience.

GYPSY JOY - Raced wide for a majority of the event.

PIPPIE POMAR – Hung in the home straight. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running at the entrance to the straight before becoming held up from the 250m until approaching the 150m.

SORT OF IN LOVE - Near 75m, when weakening, was awkwardly placed on the heels of AEROPOWER, which had shifted out marginally under riding (A. Keeley). Rider A. Keeley was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

RACE 8:KENNARDS HIRE MAIDEN PLATE  1890 M

The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 mins due to several runners being difficult to load in particular FOUR DOZEN OYSTERS and MASI KURA being fractious in the gates.

FOUR DOZEN OYSTERS – Proved difficult to load. Stewards advised trainer K. Kemp that a warning was now placed on FOUR DOZEN OYSTERS for being difficult to load. Bounded at the start, began awkwardly and lost ground. Trainer K. Kemp advised that it was his intention to give the gelding a short freshen up before returning to the races.

I DROVE ALL NIGHT – Passing the winning post on the first occasion was eased off the heels of MASI KURA which had been carried in by ASTERN POWERS (H Richardson). H Richardson was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

WAVES OF EMOCEAN (NZ) – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.

APOLLO MOON – Approaching the 600m had to be steadied away from the heels MASI KURA which was weakening.

VEGA SICILIA – Approaching the 350m had some difficulty in obtaining clear running when in restricted room between MASI KURA and DUSZIO which were both weakening.

DUSZIO - Commence to weaken from the 600m. Near the 300m, eased when close to the heels of ASTERN POWERS, which was weakening. Rider D Boche reported the mare would appreciate competing in events over a shorter distance, he further added she may not have appreciated today’s Good 4 track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormal findings. Trainer N. Owen was advised that DUSZIO is now suspended and must compete for a further barrier certificate due to its poor performance. Further, Stewards imposed a metro and provincial ban on DUSZIO until its performance was to be at a level that would warrant Stewards to reconsider lifting this embargo, margin 51.54L.

ELLES MY NAME – Shortly after the start was hampered and eased when close to the heels of
MASI KURA. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MASI KURA  - Fractious in the gates. Stewards advised trainer N. Owen that MASI KURA is now suspended for being fractious in the barriers. Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Passing the winning post of the first occasion was carried in by ASTERN POWERS which shifted in. Commence to weaken from the 600m, eased down from the 400m. Rider T Brooker stated after being fractious in the barriers the mare raced keenly throughout and proved very disappointing. Trainer N Owen was advised MASI KURA would be required to trial to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again due to its poor performance. Further, Stewards imposed a metro and provincial ban on MASI KURA until its performance was to be at a level that would warrant Stewards to reconsider lifting this embargo, margin 28.84L

ASTERN POWERS - Shifted in passing the winning post on the first occasion. Commenced to weaken from the 450m, eased down from the 350m. Rider H Richardson reported that the filly may appreciate a step back in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the signs of a heart murmur. Trainer S. Sixtus advised Stewards it was her intention to retire the filly. Although the intention was to retire the filly, Stewards advised S. Sixtus that ASTERN POWERS was now suspended and required to gain a further barrier certificate for his poor performance. Further, Stewards imposed a metro and provincial ban on ASTERN POWERS until its performance was to be at a level that would warrant Stewards to reconsider lifting this embargo, margin 48.11L.

FABARA – Raced wide without cover in the early stages before restrained to find cover near the 1400m.

STRIKE ME PINK – Passing the 1000m shifted out to avoid the heels of ELLE’S MY NAME. Rounding the home turn was eased when close to the heels of APOLLO MOON. Laid in before shifting in to the inside running rail. When questioned apprentice K. Lenton explained that at the entrance to the straight her mount was only responding fairly to her riding and after being hampered, she indevoured to shift in to obtain clear running. When questioned in relation to the opportunity to establish running between APPOLO MOON and I DROVE ALL NIGHT at 200m, K Lenton explained that her mount was not travelling well enough to fully establish that position, so she elected to continue to shift in. When asked about the opportunity to establish running between I DROVE ALL NIGHT and CLENCH shortly after K Lenton expressed again that her mount was not travelling well enough to fully establish this position and with runners rolling around under pressure she felt there would have been doubtful running and so elected to continue to shift in. Stewards noted her comments.
