SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
July 25th – Toowoomba Region (GATTON) 
 
Stewards today concluded their inquiry into the ride and tactics adopted by rider S. Bogenhuber at Gatton on June the 27th in RACE 9 The FALVEY'S HOTEL GATTON - GATTON CUP OFFICIAL AFTER PARTY BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP on JORUM. On the day Stewards took evidence from rider S. Bogenhuber and trainer of JORUM K. Kemp, along with JORUM being examined post-race by the on-course veterinarian, where no abnormalities were detected. The inquiry was adjourned to allow Stewards to receive the sectional times as well as the betting data on the race.
 
At the initial inquiry rider S. Bogenhuber explained that she was instructed to settle in a handy position and not to go early on the mare, who had been racing over a similar distance as she felt the mare may not see out a strong 2000m. She added that after getting to the lead, which she had established passing the winning post on the first occasion she focused on getting JORUM, who was racing keenly, to settle into a rhythm and travel at a pace within herself. When asked by Stewards if she felt that she went at a tempo, that was faster than required. S Bogenhuber explained that the mare was travelling well underneath her and she was comfortable in the tempo set by JORUM. She also pointed out in her opinion that she was going at closer to even time and that perhaps the bulk of the field was travelling slower than required. When asked if she was aware of the margin that she established on the bulk of the field or if she had looked back at any stage in the run after she had found the lead, she again reiterated that her focus was on getting JORUM to settle and travel the best it could underneath her and she wasn’t aware of the distance between her and the field.  She noted that she was aware that LORD PROTECTOR was traveling at her hindquarters and then just behind her through the run. Trainer K. Kemp, who was spoken to on the day via telephone as he was not on course, reported that the instructions were issued by a stable representative, but confirmed that the instructions were to settle in a handy position and to try and get JORUM to travel and not place JORUM under pressure early, as the stable also had the opinion that the mare may not see out a strong 2000m. When asked on his opinion of the ride, K Kemp was satisfied that the mare travelled keenly and this may have been detrimental to the performance and that he was comfortable and expressed overall satisfaction with the ride and tactic of S Bogenhuber. He reported that it was his intention to step the mare back down in distance after a short freshen up. Today Stewards provided S Bogenhuber with the sectional data from the race which showed that from the 1800-600m she maintained section splits between 11.63 and 12.33 seconds per furlong. This was compared to the other 2000m race on the day and was similar, noting that the class of horse in this was BM58 in comparison to the BM70. Betting data was accessed by Stewards, where no bets of note were discovered and all bets were within normal limits on the event. On reflection of the data provided to S. Bogenhuber, she felt she maintained her tempo throughout and only advised that she felt that maybe the mare would be better suited ridden with some cover. On the balance of all the evidence Stewards did not feel the ride and tactics adopted were culpable under the rules, but notified S. Bogenhuber that they were of the opinion that she went faster than she needed to for the class of horse and should of made greater effort to ascertain the margin she had established on the field along with showing more effort to slow the tempo of JORUM. In not issuing a charge, Stewards also considered the extended period S Bogenhuber had been away from race riding along with the evidence of trainer K Kemp of his satisfaction of the ride.
 

GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following overweights at acceptance time:
Race 3: 10 JEROME – W. O’Connell +1kg (55kg)
Race 4: 10 MONTEVECCHIO – D. McGillvray +1kg (56kg)
 
As rider K. Yoshida was not riding due to an injury sustained at trackwork and apprentice C. Lowe had stood herself down after Race 1 due to illness, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards summary.
Due to the lack of available apprentices, Stewards permitted C. Lowe to be replaced with senior riders in Race 3. and 4. Both K. Yoshida and C. Lowe were advised they will require a medical clearance prior to their next engagements.
 
Rider H. Shaw was reminded of his obligations to arrive on course 45 minutes before his first engagement.
 
 
Race 1 -BROWN FAMILY WINE GROUP CLASS 4 HANDICAP  1625 M
 
CARDIOLOGIST – Raced wide without cover throughout. Hung in under pressure in the straight. Rider H. Shaw reported that with the gelding stepping up in distance, he was able to settle further forward than he had at previous race starts this preparation which is the normal racing patten for the gelding.
 
ZHENG YOU – Commenced awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 1400m was eased when close to heels. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running at the entrance to the straight.
 
BROOKLYN DAISY – Late scratching at 3:27pm on veterinary advice after being fractious in the float enroute to the meeting. Trainer K. Clarke-Peoples was advised that BROOKLYN DAISY requires a veterinary clearance prior to its next engagement.
 
TOUCH OF GRACIE – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running at the entrance to the straight. Approaching the 200m raced in restricted room between BOTANICA which when bumping with TOUCH OF GRACIE had its hind quarters turned shifting in and IL CUBO which had shifted out slightly. Approaching the 150m raced in restricted room and then was carried in by BOTANICA which had steadied away from the heels of CARDIOLOGIST.

BOTANICA – Approaching the 150m was eased and carried in when close to the heels of CARIOLOGIST (H. Shaw). Rider H Shaw was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised to exercise far greater care when shifting ground.    
 
CONEY ISLAND BABY – Shortly after the start, raced in restricted room to the outside of LIVEWIRE LASS which had shifted out and as a result had to be eased. Raced keenly in the early stages and then commenced to over race whilst being restrained through the middle stages. Commenced a three wide run from the 600m. Performed below market expectations, unplaced $1.70 favourite. Rider L. Tilley reported that the gelding took some time to stretch out in the early stages before commencing to race keenly through the middle stages, which he felt was detrimental to the overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.  
 
IL CUBO – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider N. Tomizawa pled guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(6)(b) in that he used his whip above shoulder height on multiple occasion and was fined the sum of $200.
 
LIVEWIRE LASS – Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 1400m had to be eased when close to the heels of ZHENG YOU which had been steadied when racing close to the heels of CARDIOLOGIST.
 
SHOT DOWN BY LOVE - Slow into stride.
 
Race 2 - GERRY BROWN'S SHELVING & STORAGE CLASS 3 PLATE       1200 M
 
IRAMA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 600m had to be eased after attempting to shift out making contact with FINAL VOYAGE.
 
THE LITTLE PUMPER – Passing the 1000m was eased and briefly raced in restricted room to the outside of KOGA NINJA which when racing keenly had shifted out.
 
BOLE LE – Slow into stride. Shortly after the start was bumped by MIGHTY JUDD which had shifted in. Raced keenly whilst being restrained in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Tactics queried. When questioned rider D. Peisley explained that he was given no firm instructions as the gelding was first up from a spell. He added from the wide gate he began only fairly and was left in a position where he would be obliged to race wide, so elected to restrain his mount and settle toward the rear of the field. He further added that this was further back than expected but expressed satisfaction with the overall performance from the gelding who will race better over further.
 
KOGA NINJA – Began awkwardly and bumped with ULUWATU. Raced keenly in the early stages. Passing the 1000m, when racing keenly, had to be eased when awkwardly placed on heels of RARE MOON which had been taken out marginally by IRAMA which had shifted out. Rider G Geran was advised to exercise care. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
 
MIGHTY JUDD – Shortly after the start shifted in and bumped BOLE LE.
 
ZOUSLAYER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Doomben 22nd of July. Deemed a late scratching on veterinary advice at 5:10pm due to tenderness on the wither and lower back, which was attributed to a rain scald. Trainer V. Venkaya was advised that ZOUSLAYER requires a veterinary clearance prior to its next engagement. Stewards spoke to trainer V. Venkaya in relation to the frequency of horses starting in his care and the condition that ZOUSLAYER was presented to race today. V. Venkaya was advised of his obligations under AR55A in relation to frequency of race starts for horses in his care. V. Venkaya reported that ZOUSLAYER had returned to the stable in good order and he would monitor the gelding and continue on with its current preparation.
 
ULUWATU – Began awkwardly and bumped with KOGA NINJA. Approaching the 150m had to be eased then elected to shift out to obtain clear running when doing so wanted to lay in proving difficult to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the right fore leg. Trainer K. Clarke-Peoples was advised a veterinary clearance prior to its next engagement.
 
FINAL VOYAGE – Rider L. Tilley reported that the mare may have not handled the back up after racing July 18th. Tactics questioned. Rider L. Tilley explained that his intention was to settle in a better than midfield or handy position. When questioned in relation to his riding from the 1000m rider L. Tilley explained that after getting into a handy position, he restrained his mount to attempt to find cover and as MIGHTY JUDD showed intent to lead, he allowed that gelding to improve around him. He added as he approached the 800m he elected to stop restraining and ride his mount forward to place IRAMA back towards the rail as it was a favoured runner, preventing it from taking an advantageous position outside the leader. He added that in the straight as his mount was weakening FINAL VOYAGE wanted to lay in and proved difficult to ride out in his usual manner. Stewards noted his comments but nonetheless rider L. Tilley was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish.


Race 3 - 1EQUINE - FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1300 M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow rider O Kendall to view the official photo finish before agreeing with the Judges numbers.
 
DILLINGER –Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced since October 2025 and was passed fit. Slow to begin.
 
SUPER QUICK – Began awkwardly, shifted out hampering KAREEM and then continued to shift out for some distance after.

THE LOUVRE – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running at the entrance to the home straight. Approaching the 200m shifted in when a gap had presented between HOOT N HOLLER and SUKHBIR. Shortly after the 200m bumped HOOT N HOLLER.

KAREEM – Slow to begin, then soon after was hampered by SUPER QUICK which shifted out.

AFFINITY FLYER – Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 900m whilst being restrained commenced to over race before finding cover. Approaching the 800m when racing keenly improved onto heels of DILLINGER and was restrained.
 
HOOT 'N' HOLLER – Held up for clear running from the 400m to approaching the 200m.  shortly after passing the 200m was bumped on the hind quarters by THE LOURVE which had shifted in to obtain clear running.

CLEARLY GEORGE – Raced keenly in the middle stages.   
 
JEROME – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers and was found to be lame in the off hind leg. As a result JEROME was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 6:18pm. Trainer P Randall was advised that JEROME will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next engagement.
 
Stewards declared that all bets placed on JEROME to be refunded with the following deductions applied to remaining bets:

1st – SUPER QUICK – 0c win, 1c place
2nd – THE LOURVE – 1c place
3rd – DILLINGER – 2c place
 
On return of horses to the mounting yard trainer P. Randall approached the Veterinarian and Chairman of Stewards and failed to conduct himself in a manner fitting of the license he holds. Stewards inquired into the matter where P. Randall was issued a warning for his conduct and advised that it fell short of the expectations of a licensee.


Race 4 - HANNAS TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP   2010 M
 
POWER PACK – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped HABERFIELD.

ALFA DUNDEE – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running at the entrance to the straight.

HABERFIELD – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped POWER PACK. Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 400m had to steady when close to the heels of OUR BRAVE LINI.

OUR BRAVE LINI – Held up for clear running from approaching the 400m until passing the 300m.

MEDICAL AUTOCRAT – Brushed the fence on leaving the mounting yard and underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was passed fit to race. Raced wide without cover in the early stages. Passing the 1000m sustained a catastrophic racing injury to the near hind leg and was eased out of the event near the 800m. Attended to by the veterinary and was humanly euthanized. Samples were taken and MEDICAL AUTOCRAT was sent for an autopsy. Rider N. Tomizawa was assessed by QAS and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

BUMP'N'RUN – Raced keenly in the early stages of the event. Commenced to weaken under pressure from the 300m. Rider S. Bogenhuber reported that after beginning well she was able to settle in a handy position. She added that the gelding, when placed under pressure, failed to respond to her riding as expected and was disappointing. She further added than in her opinion the gelding may be better suited being ridden further back in the field.

MONTEVECCHIO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit. Slow to begin. As rider D. McGillivray was late to arrive on course, he was replaced by rider G. Goomany. After MONTEVECCHIO had being granted, on acceptance day, to be ridden 1kg over its allotted handicaped weight, as per the QRIC Rider Overweight Directive point 4, the replacement rider must also ride at the advertised probable weight. Due to an error by the Clerk of Scales rider G. Goomany weighed out and raced at the handicaped weight. When questioned rider G. Goomany was not informed of the adjusted probable weight and weighed out as normal. Stewards will conduct an internal investigation into the matter.

ROYAL GEORGE – Began awkwardly. Shortly after passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of BUMP’N’RUN which had been taken in slightly by WHATJEUDOIN’ (M Savva) which had shifted in when not quite clear. M Savva was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a).

BOLERO – Approaching the 400m was hampered and carried wider by MONTEVECCHIO which had shifted out. Passing the 400m was eased when close to the heels of MONTEVECCHIO which continued to shift out after hampering BOLERO (G. Goommany). G. Goomany was advised to exercise care when shifting ground.

ANOTHER DAZZLER – Raced keenly through the middle stages. Raced wide without cover from the 1000m.

Rider R. Wilson pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(ii) whereby she used her whip on 11 occasions prior to the 100m and 14 in total. R. Wilson had her license to ride in races suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 25 July and conclude midnight 3 August, eligible to resume August 4. In assessing penalty Stewards considered her guilty plea, record and the QRIC whip penalty guidelines. R. Wilson was advised of her rights of appeal.      
 
 
Race 5 - SELECTED SEEDS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE      1300 M
 
LANGDOWN LEGACY – Began awkwardly then bumped by JAKEBRAKE which had begun awkwardly and shifted out.   
 
NASIRON – Slow into stride.
 
OUTAGES – Raced keenly.
 
ENTERPRISE JAMAYKA – Approaching the 1000m was bumped and directed in by THEM GIRLS LIGHT UP which had shifted in (M Savva). Stewards inquired into the incident where rider M Savva was spoken to advisedly and asked to exercise far greater care when shifting ground.
 
HELLO DOLLY DIVA – Commenced awkwardly and then bumped with THEM GIRLS LIGHT UP. Then shortly after was hampered when tightened for room between THEM GIRLS LIGHT UP and ENTERPRISE JAMAYKA which had stepped out marginally. Approaching the 600m had to be steadied after improving close to the heels of THEM GIRLS LIGHT UP which had commenced to weaken.        
 
KAIDA ODORI – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly through the middle stages.        
 
REIGN OF DAME – Shortly after the start was hampered when close to the heels of JAKEBRAKE which had shifted in. Approaching the 1200m was bumped and carried wider by ROYAL RIDDLE which had shifted out abruptly. Then shortly after was restrained to settle at the rear of the field.
 
THEM GIRLS LIGHTUP – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HELLO DOLLY DIVA. Shifted in abruptly near the 1000m. Commenced to weaken from the 600m and eased down over the final 300m. Rider M. Savva was at a loss to explain the performance of the filly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Beaten margin of 34.65L. Trainer K. Kemp was advised THEM GIRLS LIGHTUP will require a further barrier certificate due to being uncompetitive.

JAKEBRAKE - Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with LANGDOWN LEGACY before then shifting in. Passing the 1000m had to be steadied when hampered by ROYAL RIDDLE which had shifted out.
 
ROYAL RIDDLE – Slow to begin. When questioned apprentice S Callow explained that shortly after the start as she went to take a hold of the filly her nearside rein broke and as a result her mount shifted out abruptly and took charge. She added she made several attempts to regain control of her mount trying to keep it balanced and wide of the field. She further added that near the 800m she managed to have some grip on her mounts mane and bridle, which allowed her to somewhat ease her mount down before dismounting in the home straight. When asked if she had noticed anything with regards to the reins prior to the incident, S Callow expressed that in her opinion the reins were in good condition and was at a loss at the cause of the failure in gear. Once S. Callow dismounted, ROYAL RIDDLE continued to gallop riderless for some distance before being recaptured and returned to the mounting yard. Underwent a veterinary examination on return to the stalls which revealed ROYAL RIDDLE showing signs of colic and a slow recovery, was treated accordingly. Stewards confiscated the bridle and reins from trainer K Clarke-Peoples whereby they were examined by Stewards, who outside of the obvious damage, could not find anything wrong which could have explained why they failed. Stewards spoke with trainer K. Clark- Peoples who advised that as far as she was aware the gear was in good condition, she further reported that ROYAL RIDDLE had returned to the stable where a decision on the current preparation will be made in the coming days. QAS assessed S. Callow who landed awkwardly when dismounting and complained of a sore knee and shoulder. She was passed fit to continue riding. Trainer K. Clark- Peoples was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to ROYAL RIDDLE’s next engagement.
 

Race 6 - MOORE TRAILERS MAIDEN PLATE 1300 M
 
BLOOD RED - Slow into stride. Tactics queried. When questioned on the tactics adopted by R. Wilson, in particular the reasons for loosing touch with the field in the early stages along with her riding in this part of the event. R. Wilson explained that BLOOD RED was first up from a spell and would need further than today’s 1300m event to race at its best. She added after being slow into stride, her mount failed to pick up the bit and lost contact with the bulk of the field. When questioned as to why she failed to place her mount under sufficient pressure to regain contact. R. Wilson explained that she did not want to bustle the gelding who was finding his feet and added that the gelding usually races best over greater distances. Although Stewards agreed that BLODD RED may race better over further, advised R. Wilson they would have expected to see more urgency in her riding in the early stages.
 
SKELDERGATE – Slow to begin. Shifted in under pressure in the straight.  
 
LYRICAL GANGSTER – Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay in in the straight.  Approaching the 150m was carried out slightly by CAPTIVATE LEGEND which was shifting out under pressure. Rider G Geran reported that the gelding raced fresh after having four weeks between runs.
 
WHISKEY AND WINE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 500m raced tight to the inside of MARKHAM MISS which when following the leader who had shifted in closer to the rail shifted in marginally. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
CAPTIVATE LEGEND - Shifted out under pressure in the straight.
 
MARKHAM MISS – Raced keenly in the early stages then raced wide before being permitted to stride forward and settle outside the leader approaching the 700m.
 
HOOKED TO CONQUER – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1000m raced in restricted room between WHISKEY AND WINE which had shifted in marginally and CAPTIVATE LEGEND which had shifted out (D Piesley) Rider D Peisley was advised to exercise care. Approaching the 500m, raced in restricted room to the inside of WHISKEY AND WINE which was tight for room to the inside of MARKHAM MISS. Approaching the 400m was bumped by WHISKEY AND WINE which was still racing tight to the inside of MARKHAM MISS and as a result became unbalanced making contact with the running rail on several occasions before being restrained near the 400m. Stewards inquired into the incident where it was established that from the 600m HOOKED TO CONQUER raced tight to the inside of WHISKEY AND WINE, which had been placed in restricted room to the inside of MARKHAM MISS, which when blending across to settle outside of CATIVATE LEGEND had shifted in when not clear (N. Tomizawa). N. Tomizawa was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise far greater care in similar situations. In not issuing a charge of careless riding, Stewards considered shortly after shifting in LYRICAL GANGSTER had moved into a position holding MARKHAM MISS in and N. Tomizawa was unable to assist his fellow riders to his inside when he was aware they were racing tight.
 
SUCCESSISMAGIC – Shortly after the start raced keenly whilst being restrained in the early stages. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
BETTER GO TORQUE – Slow to begin.          


Race 7 - RACING NATION ON POWERFM MAIDEN HANDICAP   870 M
 
CONQUER DAT – Bounded at the start. Approaching the 700m established a neat run between KISAKABOOM and MISHPAT. Was then bumped by KISKABOOM which after shifting out then raced tight between SALUKI and CONQUER DAT. Stewards spoke to rider M Savva who failed to ride her mount out over the concluding stages and was severely reprimanded. In not taking any further action, Stewards did not believe her actions had any bearing over her overall placings.
 
IGOTMYMINDONYOU – Began awkwardly and was then bumped by JIGADEE. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Wanted to lay out under pressure in the straight. Approaching the 100m when laying out was brushed by KISKABOOM which when racing greenly shifted in abruptly. Unplaced $1.75 favourite. Apprentice K. Lenton reported that her mount raced keenly and wanted to shift around under pressure throughout. After being advised to present IGOTMYMINDONYOU for a veterinary examination post-race, failed to do so and left the course prior to 30 minutes after the running of Race 7. After attempting to make contact with trainer N Keal, Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons IGOTMYMINDONYOU failed to be presented for examination as requested and left the course prior to the prescribed time. Due to the failure to present IGOTMYMINDONYOU, on the abundance of caution trainer N. Keal was advised IGOTMYMINDONYOU will require a veterinary clearance inclusive of an ECG and an endoscopic examination prior to its next engagement. IGOTMYMINDONYOU is now stood down from racing until N. Keal presents himself for the inquiry.

LOVE AND PAIN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced since September 2025 and was passed fit. Began awkwardly. Momentarily held up for clear running passing the 400m.
 
SHAKDAM – Passing the 800m was eased and carried in by IGOTMYMINDONYOU. Passing the 700m raced in restricted room and then was carried in by IGOTMYMINDONYOU which had shifted in when not quite clear. Commenced to weaken approaching the 200m and was eased down over the final 100m. Rider S Bogenhuber reported that the filly which was first up would derive benefit from further racing. She added that in her opinion racing over a distance as short as 870m did not suit the filly who would be better placed racing over distances greater than today’s event. She further added that once the filly commenced to weaken near the 200m she elected to ease her mount down quickly but added that the filly felt well within herself. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
THE FOUNDLING – Slow to muster early speed.       
 
JIGADEE – Began awkwardly. Shifted out and bumped IGOTMYMINDONYOU. Raced wide without cover in the early stages.
 
KISKABOOM – Approaching the 700m shifted out marginally before being bumped by SALUKI which when racing tight to the inside of SHAKDAM had to be checked. As a result KISKABOOM was bumped and raced in restricted room between SALUKI and CONQUER DAT. Raced very greenly under pressure in the straight. Rider N Tomizawa was advised to stop and straighten his mounts when shifting ground.
 
SALUKI – Passing the 800m raced in restricted room to the inside of SHAKDAM which had been carried in slightly by IGOTMYMINDONYOU before being corrected by its rider (K Lenton). K Lenton was reprimanded. Passing the 700m raced in restricted room to the inside of SHAKDAM before being carried in bumping KISKABOOM and then being checked (K. Lenton).
 
Apprentice K. Lenton with the assistance of rider L. Tilley pled guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) the particulars being that at near the 700m she permitted her mount to shift in, when insufficiently clear of SHAKDAM (S. In assessing penalty Stewards considered K. Lenton’s record, guilty plea, her mounts racing manners and that just prior to the incident KISKABOOM shifted out marginally, which contributed to several horses racing tightly. K.
