She added that the horse travelled well until the home turn and when placed under pressure proved disappointing over the concluding stages. She further added that consideration may be given to riding the horse further back in the field at its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MOWER – Stewards questioned apprentice L. Tilley in relation to his tactics rounding the home turn whereby he shifted wider on the track, allowing two runners to improve to his inside. Apprentice Tilley advised Stewards that having watched the previous events on today’s program he formed the opinion that the better going was some 5 or 6 wide in the home straight and therefore he elected to shift wider rounding the home turn to obtain that position. Stewards noted his explanation, however advised apprentice Tilley that in their opinion it would have been more advantageous to hold a position closer to the rail and then on straightening shift wider on the track to that part of the track which he believed to be superior going.

STEWBALL – Forced to steady near the 1200m to avoid the heels of BLUE JEST (B. Newport), which shifted out whilst being heavily restrained by its rider. Williams advised that after making heavy contact with the rail near the 800m and again near the 600m, the gelding never travelled strongly from that point and failed to run on in the home straight, proving disappointing.
