Stewards inquired into the incident at the 150m and after taking evidence from both riders involved and viewing the available patrol footage, decided to take no further action. Stewards also received a report of offensive language from Jockey D Sparks (THE JILLAROO) being directed at Jockey D Smith (BETHEHORSE) when both riders returned to the mounting yard after the race and were close to the patrons watching the horses return to the yard. Evidence was taken from both riders involved and Mr N Schofield who witnessed the offensive language from Jockey Sparks. After considering the matter, Stewards determined that an argument had begun between the two riders after the incident when pulling up with both riders exchanging offensive comments while returning to the mounting yard. When arriving in close proximity to the mounting yard where patrons gathered to view the horses returning, Jockey Smith ceased to argue but Jockey Sparks elected to continue directing offensive language towards Jockey Smith. Jockey D. Sparks was issued with a severe reprimand pursuant to AR 228(a) for his conduct and was advised that if he commits a similar offense the penalty imposed will be more severe.
